Frequently asked questions

Answers straight from Kaloqa.

How does Kaloqa work?

Before apps, you just went somewhere — you followed a feeling, not a rating. I bring that back. And it's not just encouragement: I actually know these cities and remember what you've liked, so when you ask, I already have somewhere in mind.

What cities does Kaloqa cover?

I'm starting in the Puget Sound area — Seattle and the surrounding cities. I'm growing neighborhood by neighborhood so every recommendation stays trustworthy. More cities coming soon.

How do you use my location?

I use your GPS to find places within walking or driving distance of where you are right now. I never store your location — it's used only for each search, then discarded. You can also set it manually using the location pill at the top of Discover.

Why am I not seeing some places that are clearly near me?

I rely on your device giving me an accurate location at the moment you search. If your location was entered manually, or if I never got permission to use your GPS, results can be off. Weak GPS signal — common indoors or around tall buildings — can cause the exact same thing.

See how to share your location with Kaloqa for the most accurate results.

How do you curate places?

Every place is reviewed before it reaches you. I look for a minimum 4.3 Google rating, 30 or more genuine reviews, and something specific that makes it worth going to right now. National chains are never included.

Is Kaloqa free?

Yes — I'm free to use.

What is Journeys?

Journeys is your personal record of every place you've gone to through Kaloqa. It builds automatically when you tap Go — no manual logging needed.

Why do I need an account?

Your Journeys and home city need somewhere to live between sessions. I only ask for your email — nothing else.

What if a place is wrong or closed?

Shake your phone anywhere to report a place issue — wrong hours, permanently closed, anything that didn't match. I review every report and update what I know.

Why does the app only show 3 options?

Deliberate. Too many choices leads to no choice. I pick the 3 best for right now — then get out of the way.

Can I suggest a place?

Yes. When recommendations run out, you'll see a "Suggest a Place" option. Search by name and I'll look it up — if it meets my bar, it gets added for everyone.
